Overview

A UK-based entrepreneur and transaction strategist whose career spans more than four decades across retail leadership, commercial cost consultancy and cross-border transaction structuring. Paul began in operational leadership, running sizeable retail businesses at scale and reaching managing director level with turnover responsibility above £70 million. He moved from there into commercial consultancy, delivering large-scale cost and procurement outcomes for blue-chip clients over two decades, before founding UMCI to advise on and execute complex cross-border transactions for private clients, family offices and corporate principals. He works at the intersection of relationships, capital and opportunity — identifying transactions early, structuring them intelligently, and moving them forward with pace and discretion.

Approach

Paul is neither a traditional consultant nor a banker, and the work does not sit neatly in either category. What he does is closer to coordination in its fullest sense: aligning capital with opportunity, structuring transactions that cross jurisdictions and counterparties, and holding together the professional, banking and commercial relationships a complex deal depends on. He is retained most often in situations where conventional routes have failed, or where the commercial logic is sound but nobody has yet worked out who does what, in which order, and who is accountable when it slips. The bias throughout is toward execution. Analysis matters, but only in service of a transaction that completes.

The platform

UMCI OÜ

— the primary operating vehicle. Strategic, commercial and treasury advisory, transaction coordination, corporate and investment structuring, and project delivery. The work covers holding company and special purpose vehicle structuring, coordination of banking and professional relationships, and the management of multi-jurisdictional transactions from initiation through to completion. Clients are private individuals, family offices and corporate principals.

Quaestus Global

— the investment platform within the UMCI structure, providing allocation strategy, portfolio-level coordination and governance where a client's capital is deployed across several investments, vehicles or jurisdictions under a single strategic programme.

Praedium Investments

— the prime real estate capability. Acquisition strategy, sourcing, due diligence coordination, financing coordination, development and asset management, focused on prime central London and on consortium acquisitions where several parties acquire together through a special purpose vehicle.

Quaestus Global and Praedium Investments are trading brands of UMCI OÜ.

Career

Retail leadership · 1979–1994Fifteen years in UK retail operations across chain store, high street and designer fashion, culminating in managing director roles with turnover responsibility above £70 million. This is where the operational discipline came from — cash conversion, working capital under pressure, and the experience of running a business where the numbers move daily and a plan either survives contact with reality or does not.
Commercial cost consultancy · 1994–2015Two decades through PSA Management and subsequently Broaden Corporation, delivering large-scale cost and efficiency outcomes for blue-chip clients. The period built deep negotiation and procurement expertise, and a corporate network that continues to inform the current work.
Transaction advisory · 2015–presentThe founding of UMCI and the move into investment structuring, cross-border transaction coordination and high-value, relationship-led mandates. More than a decade structuring and executing transactions for private clients and family offices across multiple jurisdictions.

What he brings

Commercial instinctRecognising where value sits before it becomes obvious or widely marketed, and knowing which of the available structures will actually hold.
Operational groundingStructures that fail usually fail operationally, and they fail eighteen months after the people who designed them have moved on. Fifteen years running businesses is why UMCI designs for how a structure will be banked, governed, reported and eventually exited — not for how it appears on a diagram.
Depth behind the principalPaul leads every mandate personally, supported by a long-established multidisciplinary network built over four decades: specialists in finance and financial modelling, real estate, cross-border legal and tax, corporate structuring, due diligence and commercial analysis, alongside banking institutions, notaries and tax advisers across Europe and internationally. Capability is appointed and managed directly rather than assembled by the client, so a mandate carries institutional depth without institutional distance.
Comfort with complexityMulti-jurisdictional transactions, layered ownership structures, and mandates where several regimes, counterparties and advisers have to be reconciled into a single workable position.
ExecutionTransactions that complete. Clients retain Paul for outcomes rather than for advice, and every UMCI mandate is led by him personally from first conversation to final account.

Positioning

The work sits in a space that resists a single label — somewhere between independent adviser to family offices, transaction structurer and commercial principal. Not institutional, but not informal either. Relationship-led, commercially serious, and deliberately small: a firm that takes a limited number of mandates and leads each one personally.

Confidentiality

UMCI does not publish client names, transaction values or case studies, and does not confirm or deny whether it has acted on any matter. Credentials are established in conversation, under confidentiality, with the specificity the question deserves.
